Budgeting

What does it mean to be wealthy?

When you think of a wealthy person, you probably picture someone with a big house, lots of fancy cars, and someone with all the latest expensive clothes and gadgets. They spend money on everything and show off to everyone how much they have. In actuality, this type of person is usually the least wealthy of all.

Some people who inherit millions and billions of dollars or who are just rolling in millions of dollars from a business or other success do spend a lot of money and are wealthy. But most people who spend a lot of money aren’t wealthy.

Maybe your kid goes to school with someone who always has the latest clothes and the newest gaming system, but you know their mother doesn’t work and their father has an average job such as an engineer or dentist. Sure, engineers and dentists make a lot of money, but do they make enough to pay for a couple Mercedes, a million dollar house, high end clothing for the whole family, and $50 steak dinners on a regular basis?

Probably not.

A lot of these “wealthy” people are not wealthy at all, they are just big spenders. They may have thousands of dollars in credit card debt because they can’t stop spending. Even if they aren’t in debt, it’s very unlikely that they have anything saved for retirement. They probably live paycheck to paycheck on their lavish lifestyles.

Now, please understand, not everyone th at lives this way is in debt or doesn’t have any savings, but very many do. Even a doctor making half a million dollars a year can’t afford to be spending 1 million dollars a year. The math doesn’t lie.

My point is wealth is not measured by what you own, unless what you own is many high value assets such as a house and other investments. A $100,000 car will be worth much less in 10 years, but a $100,000 house will probably be worth more. Spending hundreds of dollars at fancy restaurants and on new clothes and electronics is more than likely money down the drain.

In order to be truly wealthy, you need to have a high net worth.

Your net worth is equal to the sum off all your assets including your home, cash on hand, checking account, savings account, and any investments you own, minus your liabilities or debt such as your mortgage, credit card debt, car loans, etc.

In order to increase your net worth, you need to increase your assets and decrease your liabilities. This is done by making more money, spending less money, or both. Of course, simultaneously doing both will be the quickest path to riches.

How can I become wealthy if I’m not making hundreds of thousands of dollars per year?

Simply by doing as I just said, spending less and making more. You can make more money by getting a raise at work, starting a side business, getting a part-time job, or investing your money.

It’s a lot easier to increase your wealth by spending less. You are just spending less of what you already have. This is where budgeting comes in.

What is Budget Planning and how will budgeting money make me wealthy?

Budget planning, or budgeting, is very easy. You make a plan of how you will spend and save your money by first examining how you are spending your money now. This will help you learn where you are wasting your money and where you can cut back.

Once you know how much you have to spend, you can adjust it and make a plan to have more money to save. This money is the key to your wealth. Save it, invest it, and watch it grow. Investing your money is what is going to increase it exponentially and is what can turn someone making $50,000 a year into a millionaire.

Have a Plan and Build your Wealth

Once you’ve made a budget and begin following it, you can save and invest your money to start building your wealth. Make sure you pay off your debt first before you really start investing because debt also decreases your wealth.

Remember, wealth is more than just having lots of money. By being financially secure you can reduce stress in your life because you won’t have to worry about debt. Financial security will help keep you stress free, give you more time to spend with those you love, and give you true wealth and happiness.
